Courage

Ordinary courage is about putting your vulnerability on the line. Speaking honestly and openly about who we are, about what we are feeling, and our experiences (good and bad) is the definition of courage.

Me - I've had many opportunities for courage and vulnerability. Almost all of it is sparked by trauma. I remember the good as well as the bad. All of these events I see as opportunities to be vulnerable. I find it easy to share my stories with strangers. The courage comes when I had to share my stories, both good and bad, with those I loved the most. It's courageous because the door has been opened for my biggest fear and weakness: rejection. It was really difficult, and there were a lot of tears. It hurt, a lot. But it also felt good. The cauterizing fire from vulnerability and empathy and connection healed me in more ways than I know or understood when I was sharing.
